5Best Cheap RC helicopter ever!  Feb 23, 2007 By Clayton J. Sorensen
I just bought this RC helicopter at Walmart for $[...]. I originally was going to get the picco z but then saw this one. I bought it and took it home. It can go up, down, forwards, reverse, left and right. It took a little getting used to but I have fairly good control over it now. It's a little squirely and very sensitive to air currents inside my house, but with a little experience, you'll be flying like a pro in no time at all. I let my 4 year old try flying it and even he can fly it to some extent. It's that easy. After about 100 crashes, it's holding up quite well. The only thing that has broke on it was a small piece of one of the rotors from crashing into something. It comes with 2 extra rotor blades but it still flies fine even with the small piece missing. The foam body is holding up very well. I've taken mine outside and it flies very well. Just watch out for trees and any small wind current will send your helicopter flying away. Overall I'm very impressed. It is providing me with hours of stress relief. I love it. If you have an aero ace rc airplane, you'll love this helicopter.

2Bad controls, not a "real" RC heli.  Apr 02, 2007 By Nephtis
I first purchased the Havoc Heli (the smaller cousin of the Reflex) and was very impressed even with it's limited control ability so I decided to purchase the Reflex. I returned it the next day but am still very pleased with the Havoc.

Neither are "real" RC choppers as they don't use manipulation of the angle of the blades for directional control (not sure what the technical term for this is.) and therefore have limited maneuverability . The Reflex uses the main blades to hover and 2 small fans on either side to provide the directional changes. The main problem with the
Reflex is that it always drifts to one side (not related to adjusting the trim and the manual states that this drifting will occur) and if you happen to make a turn in the direction the unit is drifting in it sends the unit careening out of control and into the nearest obstacle. The directional control stick is not analog and doesn't allow for degrees of motion but merely an on/off click in one of four directions at a time making it VERY difficult to control.

I would highly recommend the Havoc Heli (again, the smaller cousin of the Reflex) as it is a great value for it's low price (though it takes some getting used to) but for those looking for a more fulfilling (or outdoor) RC chopper experience you should go to your local hobby shop and invest in a real fully functional RC chopper (which can be purchased for around $200 with all accessories included at most shops) and skip the Reflex Heli. It is NOT worth the significant price increase over the Havoc Heli.

5Greatest toy ever.  Jul 14, 2007 By kdkns
I just started playing with the helicopter today and can not put it down and am dying in-between charge times to the point I'm about to buy another one. Frist off some info about the helicopter:

Construction:

The rotors are made of plastic that are soft/bendable but hard enough to take plenty of hits against walls/trees/roof tops etc... The body is made of styrofoam material as is the case with all of these mini helicopters but it is pretty sturdy and contains a battery inside that is non-removeable/non-replaceable. The power supply plugs directly into the back of the copter and flashes a red light while charging. The light turns off once complete. There are also two mini-motors with fans on each side that allow direction control.

Functionality/Use:

Absolutely great ONCE you have properly tweaked the rotors/body a bit. The instructions are very detailed and you must adjust the rotors with a little screw wheel to correct the helicopter from spinning left or right. There will be some minor turning in one direction but I have found you can get pretty much dead straight with minor adjustments and some body tweaks.

The reason I mention body tweaks is the tail end of the copter may need to be adjusted or after a bad crash. It's very sturdy and you can moved/flex it around to adjust the tail fin to correct if the copter is moving left or right, NOT turning left or right. By adjusting the fin, you can get the copter very level straight flight, but even if you don't it's pretty easy to get it stable. I found this out after I had a crash into a rose bush and the helicopter kept going left and realized the tail end of the body was slightly bent.

To the poster who put a negative review, try adjusting the tail fin, it should correct your problem of it going left.

Once everything is stable you can being lift off and get this thing pretty high in the air and moving in all directions. Wind is bad for the copter so try with 0-2 mph winds or in a closed off location. You don't have to get it very high to have fun with it and you can control it pretty well with enough practice.

Battery:

I haven't been checking the length but with the crashing and all you can be anywhere form 10-30 mins with this thing. The battery can't be replaced and once it goes bad you'll need to purchase a new toy all together ( which could be 1 or 5 years time frame, who knows ) but still worth every penny. It charges in about 1-2 hours.

Durability:

I'm very impressed so far. I've heard of the smaller helicopters breaking almost immediately after hitting a wall or an object but this thing has been beaten bad the first day. Lots of wall hits, rose bushes, plants, cement, grass, brick, roof tops, 30ft drop , bouncing off of roof top then wall, then ground, rotors hitting granite counter top, glasses, cups, cabinets, etc... The helicopter is designed to have the rotors fold/break if it hits an object, and in some cases the rotor will just pop out if a bad hit. I've only had it happen twice and they just pop back in. They include another set ( four blades ) in case they break. The rotors are soft and very little damage can be seen on them after all the crashes.

Overall:

Very impressed and happy with the product. I chose Air Hogs brand helicopter ( there were some mini copters by another brand I hadn't heard of but looks like the cheap kind ) and am very glad I did. I owned another one of there planes which was also durable and flew very well.

5I love this thing  Jul 16, 2007 By David Trotz "matrixg33k"
This helicopter is quite amazing. It takes about a day of flying to really get good enough to land where you want and to crash softer. I can land this in my kids hands although they need to be paying attention so that they can help with the landing because precise control is not really possible. The control it gives is more modifying the momentum of the vehicle with two small blades attached to the sides which help guide the craft but do not give precise control. However with some practice you can get the hang of it.

I have already broke two blades, the lower ones, and that in two days of use. Thankfully it comes with extras, but I had to use eBay to find some replacements, which do exist. I suspect however that now that I have the hang of it, I will crash less, but the extra blades will be nice.

Battery life is quite good. It takes about an hour to charge but I am getting at least 20-30 minutes a charge in flying time. It also has an auto off feature in the remote as well in the craft which help save battery life when not in use for ~10 minutes. BE SURE TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS WHEN IT COMES TO CHARGING THIS THING. Otherwise you may not get a good lifetime out of the battery, and it is not replaceable.

Flying indoors is definitely preferred as the craft is very sensitive to light winds, and even indoors, be mindful of fans and air conditioners which will contribute to random flying.

Overall I love this thing and when it finally dies, I will be buying a new one. Its just simply amazing, and worth every penny.

5This is awesome!  May 17, 2007 By C. Gahran
This RC helicopter is a lot of fun for the size and the price! It's a bit tough to get the hang of it the first few tries at flying it, but soon you'll understand how it works and get the hang of it. Even though it's not full sized or you can't do great moves with it, it's still a really fun toy to have around and play with. I'm 22yrs old and a female and I *love* this heli (my bf got one also!) because of the ease of use. It charges fast, lasts long and it's well worth the money. Get used to flying this kind of heli before you try and pilot the larger RC or gas powered ones.
