very unstable. Would not recommend May 21, 2010 I just received the Air Hogs "reflex". I've flown a few different RC helis and was fairly optimistic about this one. However, even after I had it trimmed and hovering relatively stable it would drift in a circular motion (like a pendulum) and would soon lose any semblence of stability. On a positive note this heli seems almost indestructible. Trying to trim and modify to just hover has seem it careen at high speed into doors, walls, or even into an unplugged fan with no damage to the heli. The collapsable blades are very efficient at absorbing the shock of a crash.
All in all I would not recommend this heli. If you're looking for a cheap heli for a kid or "kid at heart" the Air Hogs "sharpshooter" is a lot of fun and extremely stable if a little weak.
Fun for kids and adults Aug 25, 2008 Pros: Durable, after many crashes I still haven't had to replace the rotors. Battery life is good for what it does (rated at 8 minutes, but if you stop many times its more like 10-15). Has fwd/back/spin left/spin right controls. So light, that it's not prone to damage anything it rams into.
Cons: Battery charging time is painfully slow (1-2 hrs). It's light weight causes it to be at the mercy of any slight air movement around it. Wanders quite a bit even in still air. Fwd/back/left/right controls are all on or off, there's no in between.
I've had this for about a month now. After some frustration with being able to control it sometimes, and other times not, it dawned on me why it seemed inconsistent. It only flew stable indoors with the air conditioning OFF. When there was any air movement in the room, it would get pushed all over the place by the ventilation in the room. If the air just catches the tail of the helicopter, the copter is put into a spin. So if you want any sense of control, make sure the air in the room is very still.
I would not recommend this for outdoor use unless you have a huge field to fly in. My son and I took it for some flights outside and the slightest breeze sent it sailing. I was very impressed how high the copter could go though. It can shoot up 40 feet in an instant, then your running after it as the wind takes it away. I actually had it plunge 40-50 ft down into the street, but it survived no problem.
My son is 5 yrs old and he loves it. I was apprehensive about letting him try it at first and was actually planning on not letting him see it. But after using it a while, I realized he couldn't really hurt it easily (unless he steps on it!)
Forward/backward movement is a bit limited. The copter is designed to balance itself. Forward movement only gets it so far before it tilts up a little to counter-act the forward force, causing it to stop.
Even with all these 'cons', you gotta remember this IS a toy, not a fully functional hobbiest helicopter with real controls, and is priced as such. My sons asks to fly it everyday and I still enjoy it very much. I like how I don't have to worry about wrecking anything in the house.
Chopper fun! Feb 14, 2008 I bought this helicopter as a Christmas gift for my son. After flying it myself, I am going to have to get one for me! Don't waste your money on any other brand because you will not be satisfied. This is a great toy no matter if you're 8 or 80.

Air Hogs Reflex Feb 08, 2008 I wanted the Air Hogs Reflex helicopter for Christmas. At the time my wife could not find one so she got me the Air Hogs Helex instead. About two weeks after Christmas I ordered the Air Hogs Reflex. With shipping and tax it was just shy of $70. It was packed well and everything was received in excellent condition. It was a pain in the but to say the least in getting the Reflex and all of its components removed from the packaging. Once removed I put it on the charger and spent some time going over the directions. It took about 1hour and 10 minutes to fully charge. The initial flight required some trim adjustments to be made. This was very strait forward and took about 3 to 4 adjustments to trim out any unwanted rotation. The motor is very powerful compared to the Helex. If you're not careful you could easily put the Reflex into the ceiling in the blink of an eye. I have had a fair amount of RC experience so I didn't have a lot of trouble getting use to this. The Reflex is driven forward, backwards, and is turned by two fans on the side of the helicopter. There is a slight delay from the time you move the joystick to when the fans start to run. But with in a couple of flights I had the hang of in and could fly the Reflex around my basement pretty much wherever I wanted it to go although the control is not precise. After about 16-18 flights I started to have some problems. I was hovering the helicopter when it started to shake really badly. With in a few seconds of noticing the shake the helicopter started loosing altitude even at full throttle. I let the helicopter land and then tried to lift off again. I could hear a grinding noise and it would not lift off. I shut everything down and went to investigate. I thought maybe one of the blades came loose or something was caught on one of the rotors. I found nothing out of the ordinary there. I tried spinning the rotors by hand and it was very rough. Almost like one of the gears is messed up or something. I tried to contact Spin Master to see if they could help me through their online web site. To date I never received a response from them. So I carefully cut the body off using and exacto knife. Then I disassembled the transmission. In the transmission there is a pinion gear that drives two ring gears. The Top rotor is the ring gear on the bottom side of the pinion gear and the lower rotor is ring gear on the topside. It appears that the top rotor had too much up and down play so it was not meshing properly with the pinion gear. This in turn caused excessive wear to the pinion gear and now is slipping. I would imagine if you happened to buy one that did not have excessive play with the ring gear meshing to the pinion gear it would have lasted much longer. Following a tip that I found on line, I fixed the gear by cutting off the striped portion and pushing the gear back down to the end of the drive shaft. I put everything back together and it flew as good as new again. But within a week the pinion gear wore again and the same problem is back. You can't get these parts for the Reflex so it's now junk. I would strongly suggest steering clear of the Air Hogs Reflex. If you are looking for a cheap toy helicopter to play with I would recommend the Air Hogs Helex. The cost is about $25 and it is very rugged. The one I have has been crashed many times by my son and its still working like new. For a few bucks more than what the Reflex costs you can get into a hobby grade helicopter such as the Esky Lama V4 which runs about $80. This is a coaxial design like the reflex but it's a much better design and fly's like a real helicopter unlike the Reflex. I won't say is anymore rugged if you crash it but you can by any part you need for it. I whish I would have known about the Esky Lama V4 prior to buying the Air Hogs Reflex. I feel like I wasted $70. Oh well, I've done plenty of dumber things in my days.
Fun but hard to maneuver Jan 06, 2008 I bought the smaller havoc heli first, after 5 months of having fun with it I decided to buy this bigger one. The first visual impression was WOW, you feel the quality, I also was impressed by the blades and the small fans in the back (keep in mind that I was used to the smaller Havoc). When you use it you also notice the extra power this have but....
Since this Heli do not have tail rotor it depends only on the rear fans to go left/right, there is a small delay between the stick in the remote control and the fans movement, so you have to anticipate yourself.
The problems comes when you need to maneuver it, if you need to go forward the rear fans sometime do nothing (they work, but do not blow enough air to move the heli) sometimes the same thing happens when turning right/left.
I also have crashed it very little (thanks to the havoc experience) and the foam tail is begining to fall apart, I have crashed hard the blades but they have resisted fine.
Conclusions: limited maneuverability - Not as promoted, but it is powerful and fun.
Tip: Since the small fans do not move forward the heli I recommend to add some extra weight to the nose so it keeps going a little forward. This will boost the fun to the experience.
