Very cool entry-level diesel loco Jan 30, 2010
By R. Lew This high nose EMD GP-50 is great if you want an inexpensive GP-50 for your livery, err collection. This is a Bachmann standard series loco and the price reflects that. It has enough aesthetic details for most like hand rails, working lights, nice paint scheme, mock air horn, and mock bell. But, it is rather crude compared to my Athearn locos that cost twice as much. The road number 6551 does not reflect the real deal. I bought this primarily for my daughter to admire on her train set instead of letting her play with the complex 4-8-4 steam loco the set came with, at least not until she's older. For serious modelers, this may not be for you. For those looking for a durable model train loco with good power/tractive effort, nice graphics in black, this is very nice. It is all-wheel drive, ie all 4 axles are driven. I have it pulling a nine car load with no problem. The high nose almost reminds me of a SD-9, except with 4 axles which makes it more like a GP-9, lol.

NS rocks the set! Aug 30, 2006 Impressive train engine this is. I always liked trains since I was a kid & I finally own a train set of these types here, good work from this.
Norfolk Southern is the train company that is located in Georgia, where I'm from which is a good thing here.
NS is the recking force of todays locomotives, along with CSX, Conrail, Southern Pacific, BNSF, Soo, & of course B & O!
I like this engine very much, & soon I'll make my own train alley, he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he!!!!!!!!
