 Practice!!!! Feb 28, 2010
Don't take this thing out of the box and go outside! Practice this a lot inside in an open area and learn to hover first. I'm on my second one due to not enough practice. This thing is amazing but extremely complicated. Fine tune the left right under the front cover before you go outside. Spend some time and think about finding the carbon fiber front cover before you go outside. The carbon fiber front piece is about $20 but would have saved me about $140 in parts trying to fix my first one. I took the parts back and bought a second one. You might want to look online for a broken one just to salvage parts. Excellent product and pretty amazing to fly.

Great RC Level Starter Heli Aug 10, 2009
Before diving into larger 3d heli's, I decided to get my feet wet with the CX2. In the last 6 months I have fully customized it, fully dismantled it, and crashed it 1000's of times and totally love it.
PRO's
- Inexpensive to buy and maintain
- Very stable (coaxial heli's are the easiest to fly)
- Replacement parts are readily available
- Plenty of information on web forums
- Well written users guide
- Easily upgraded
- Box can be used as travel case
- Great for learning the basics of RC heli flight and maintenance
- Your wife will probably show no interest in it
CON's
None really, so long as you understand what to expect. The CX2 is a coaxial, 6 channel heli for indoor use. That means it is very stable but not as agile as bigger 3d helis. I ranked the durability as rather low, but considering that it is a lightweight, 4 bladed helicopter that can move pretty quick, 2 stars is actually pretty impressive for an RC heli!
- It does not fly well outside, but can if zero wind. You will need an open space, like a garage or game room to learn. Hold off on taking it around furniture until you get the basics down
- The remote can only be used for the CX2 and does not have an output for flight simulators
- Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) batteries do not perform as well as many after market (AM) brands
TIPS
- Verify that your local hobby shop (LHS) has parts for the cx2; as with any heli, YOU WILL CRASH and YOU WILL NEED PARTS. It's a drag to have to order parts and wait for them.
- BUY BLADES. You will kill blades like they are going out of style as you learn how to fly. I tend to break lowers far more often than uppers.
- Buy extra batteries. Batteries take 1.5 hours to charge and run for about 7-10 minutes. Get at least one extra. Aftermarket batts seem to be better and cheaper than OEM ones.
- Typical parts that need replacing from crashes are blades, inner shaft, outer shaft and landing skids - buy AM skids that flex to replace the OEM ones
- Do not buy if you do not enjoy tinkering with mechanics. You will spend more time fixing it than flying it as you learn
The CX2 is great for testing your interest in RC helis as it's price point is low, parts are cheap and the unit is very stable when compared to other RC helis. It is also great fun for more accomplished heli pilots on days confined indoors. It is ready to fly out of the box, looks good, and is a terrific tool for learning heli flight basics, and mechanics.
It's a great springboard into more advanced helis if you decide you like it, and pretty cheap if you decide you don't. The average price to repair it from a crash is about [...] bucks - larger helis are more like $[...] - yep, per crash.
I know that a flight time of 7 minutes seems rather low, but I dare you to fly for an entire battery without crashing. You'll get there, but it will take some practice. 7 minutes is plenty for beginners!
The CX2 is a great value, can be easily customized, and is a lot of fun.

When I purchased the CX2 I was told it was very stable. However I could never get it to hover. It would always slide off onto a different direction every time. My Flt Controller had trim knobs which needed to be in 100% trim. Unfortunately there was never enough trim left over to actually trim it into a stable vertical hover. I was expecting to have trim knobs in a near neutral position but when it was never enough, there was no controlling it. $200 dollars is a lot of money to me and I expected value for my money of which I received none. I have been looking at other hellos and people are recommending the Blade 400 ($475) but based on the quality of its smaller cousin, I will not buy it. You would think that you could add gyros so that you get true stable flight. I dont need a arobatic zip here and there Helo. I just want one that has great quality that's worth the money.

Great start to R/C helicopters without killing yourself! Dec 16, 2008
I just got into R/C helicopters and this is a REALLY good starter electric that is super fun and you can actually fly it indoors. I first bought the Megatech Housefly2 from hammacher schlemmer and it was an overpriced piece of garbage. The Blade is so much better its not even funny. It has a gyro for rotational stability and is actually capable of pretty decent forward speed so be careful when you are learning. Thankfully they sell separate body pieces (nose and fuselage) and they come on and off easily. Definitely get extra upper and lower blades and extra landing skids (they can break with a rough landing). Once you get good with this thing you can land it on a bar stool, it's that stable. Batteries take about 40-60 mintues to charge and bout 10 min flying time which actually is alot because you have to attend to it so carefully. If you are thinking of going to a smaller single blade electric GET THIS FIRST BECAUSE THIS WON'T KILL YOU! I have a larger 400 series blade electric and i'm learning to hover it and not be in fear for my life. The large single blade electrics are harder to learn on than larger models for hovering. They are like an upside-down lawn mower in the air that does what it wants. You won't be disappointed with the Blade CX2, just get extra parts and look out for the dog!

This is a fairly cool little toy to play with, much easier to control than the cheaper ones. I got the the point I could just throw it about at will. The replacement blades are 4 for a dollar, so you don't worry much about breaking them. Mostly I just had to replace broken blades, one main gear, and the landing gear. Over all, I'd say it's fun to play with and fairly rugged.
The down-side is that you won't learn anything about flying a single-rotor RC helicopter from these. The flight behavior is completely different. Coaxes are inherently stable, and they don't bank to move, and most importantly, they stop moving when you let go of the stick. A single rotor will flip over and crash in a heartbeat, something that's impossible with a coax.
Also, this manufacturer has replaced this one with a much cheaper model.
