First-Rate Design Jul 25, 2009

I live in an apartment which overlooks a pond so I decided to purchase one of these after making sure there were no rules against it. I already own a Hobbyzone Firebird Freedom RC airplane so I know this company makes great products. The Zig Zag Racer turned out to be the perfect choice for my apartment pond. Its virtually silent so I don't annoy my neighbors but it zips right along and turns on a dime. The standard 6-cell battery pack might be fine for a swimming pool but in my opinion is not fast enough for a large pond. I would highly recommend the optional 7-cell battery packs and charger available at [...] (RA-H2/3A7R3FMTx2 and CHUN-123 and CN-Adaptor(F-M)MTM). This is by far the best price I have found on these battery packs and the charger works perfectly every time. The difference in boat speed was worth the extra cost, plus the same batteries and charger can be used for other Hobbyzone products (such as the Firebird Freedom).

Fun toy and works great Feb 08, 2008
By Don Jones Hobby zone is a 1st class company and this boat works very well. I had a problem with the range of the remote. Sent it back and they sent me a brand new boat. My son has quite a bit of fun with this boat. In the summer time, we'll bring it with us on the ski boat for some entertainment. Go do a search on Utube to see some video of it in action. That says it all.

It's fun for a while...but Mar 19, 2011

Overall this is a fun boat, very fast. This thing can completely change direction at full speed (again very fast) in a second, which could make it a little hard to control for some. It is made of very light weight plastic etc, not going to take much physical abuse, but suitable for it's purpose.
First thing you will notice is it comes with a "car" charger, which for us was not ideal. Ours takes at least 20-30mins to charge, which means leaving the keys on in the car for that time. I would have preferred an ac wall charger, but you have to buy that extra. I bought a second 7 cell battery for it which cost near $30, which in my opion is a rip-off. It seems to be the only one that will fit. The boat ended up sitting for a few months and the batteries suffered a loss of charge capacity. Then next time they didn't charge at all. Another $30.
Conclusion: The boat is fun. The charger works, but would rather have an ac wall charger. The batteries lasted for a season. I'm guessing if you let them sit for a few months un-used, you're going to need new ones and they are not cheap at $30 a pop. Wait to buy a second battery until the first one dies, it will stretch out the time you have playing with the boat.
Very fast RC boat. May 14, 2012

These boats are very fast for the money and a ton of fun in the pool. Turns on a dime. Water gets in easily though as the top is just held on with a rubber band but its easy to just dump the water out. Run time is ok at about 10-15 min. The charger works quickly but get the optional wall plug for easier charging.
