Nice addition Jan 25, 2010
By Ken Rider Admit I had my doubts when my 7 year old wanted this set recently. He thought it looked cool from the box but I wondered what it had to offer beyond the new Atlantis underwater theme. Turns out that the set is a hit on several levels...he loves it (no surprise there) but it's also nicely designed and offers more than a new theme.
As with most sets, there are a few small ships and vehicles to build first, which is nice. The main Neptune ship is the real draw. It has some terrific features...there are cool new pieces and the finished ship is also designed to allow bay doors to open and push back in a creative way that transforms the shape of the vehicle. Very cool and not something you see with every set.
I guess the best testament I can share is that my son usually takes apart a set within a week after building it and just uses the pieces for his own creations. This one has already lasted two weeks, with no sign that it's coming apart any time soon! Couple of other notes: my son has been putting together Lego sets himself for several years and didn't have any trouble with this one. There are about 450 pieces, which makes the price a little steep compared to some comparable sets, though not overly so.

Multi-vehicle fun, a hit with the boys Jun 18, 2010
By LegoGirl I was not initially a fan of the new Atlantis Lego theme---looked like the same old stuff, only under water. My son requested this set specifically and after building it I can understand why! NOTE: don't overpay, this one should be around $59; for 475 pieces it's not a 'bargain' but still worthwhile considering some of the unique specialized parts that are included. The model shows for ages 8-14 but it's an easy build (and does have the pieces segregated into numbered baggies to follow the instructions): around 30 minutes to finish for a Lego fan.
The main model in the set is a mothership-style water vehicle. Propellers, movable engine wings, minor and major propellers, and lots of other neat detailing. A mini-sub docks neatly to the rear of the main vehicle, and you also have a second separate wheeled repair rover. Minifigs include 3 divers (with unusual airtank backpacks) and King Neptune with his trident. The black Manta Ray is another bonus! After building the set, my son immediately began an undersea battle. This is a great set for playing, not just a "display" as some models are. This set also offers several unique pieces/parts to add to your Lego collection---always great to get a few new things !

Young Lego Fan Pleaser Jan 17, 2012
By R. Quigley My 7 year old son is really in a Lego phase of his life and this set was #1 on his list this year. He is very happy... the toy was easy for him to build, is well designed, and holds enough of his interest that he still plays with the assembled "craft" as a toy. As a parent, I'm reluctant to buy a "build and forget" toy. This one was a great value.

By MeMeMe My son enjoyed building this and is now playing "underwater" stories. Unlike most Legos, this has kept his attention and it has rekindled his love for Legos.
