Amazing Idea Bad Execution Aug 08, 2010

Bought this for my 6 yearold. We had great fun putting it together and the modular aspect was nice as we put each building and car together at a different time. However, this is when the trouble started. When it was time to put the modules together everything broke apart. Since then I have become an expert at putting this together. About once every week the toy falls apart and its to hard for my 6 yearold to put it back together without starting from scratch. If you are going to build this once and put it on the shelf its 5 stars. If you want to play with it when you are done building it I can only give it 2 stars. When I has a kid the Legos did not fall apart when you touched them. For the cost of this its could stick together a much better so the kids could play with them when they are done building what is a very cool set.

Better and worse than they used to be Jul 16, 2010
By ComputerNerd As a child, Legos were my favorite toy. Until my teenage years, I'd spend hours building, destroying, rebuilding and creating with the magical blocks. So it was only natural that I'd introduce my son to them. Today's Legos are much more sophisticated than they were 20 years ago. This is both good and bad; the realism and detail are fantastic, however with so many specialized parts, it is much more challenging to construct original designs using these kits. Where the old packages used to show lots of ideas for other things you could build in addition to the "official" design, today's boxes now only show multiple angles of the "official" design.
In regard to this set, I agree with the reviewer who stated that it feels a little skimpy for the money. The large ladder truck's rear end hangs out of the garage bay. The portion of the model with the bunk beds and telephone (though it looks very cool from the outside) is so small that it is almost pointless. A dad holding a Lego figure can barely fit his fingers in there to move it around. But those are an adult's concerns. My kid absolutely loves this thing, and has been fascinated with it since the moment we brought it home.

Some very cool pieces, hard to move once you get it together. Dec 16, 2010

We got this toy for my 4 year old son. It is a fun set and is fun to put together. There are two fire trucks, a garage, and a living area (sleeping quarters, etc.) for the firemen. There are some really cool pieces in the set. The firetrucks work well and the garage doors are nifty in how they slide up and down.
The biggest negative to this set is that it is very hard to move from place to place. After we built it (over the course of three nights) and tried to move it, it completely fell apart. So, we rebuilt it on a tray that we had sitting around. Now we just move the tray around and it is fine. So, just a note...if you want to keep this together to play with build it on something that you can move with it. You cannot move the piece by itself after it is built, it is just not stable.
The above issue is a bit disappointing and could have been solved if they had just including larger base plates. Another small issue is that the ladder falls off of the ladder truck a lot, but it is very easy to put back on so that is not a huge issue.
Overall we had fun with this set. Lots of neat pieces. Love the way the trucks operate and the garage doors operate, looks very cool when it is all done and my 4 year old loved playing with it. Just build it on something you can move around because the station base itself is not stable after you build it!

Expensive for what you get Apr 09, 2010

My son saved his money and recently bought this item. We were a little disappointed in the size. It seems small for the price, especially compared to the Lego City Police Station which he received for Christmas. The fire station also does not seem to want to hold together. He has had to rebuild it several times during play because pieces fell off. He has not had this problem with the police station. He has enjoyed playing with it, but I believe the money could be better spent on another Lego City item.

Falls apart too easily Feb 10, 2011
By Evan's mom My almost 7 year old got this for Christmas. He loves fire trucks, and his Grandma thought this would be perfect for him. We put it together and he spent hours playing with it. The problem is when it was time to clean up and he picked it up to put it on his shelf, it fell almost completely apart. The trucks stay together pretty well, but the station itself is just too flimsy. We spend more time putting this back together than we do actually PLAYING with it. What a disappointment.
