Good starter LEGO vehicle kit Dec 31, 2010

This includes a LEGO farmer figure with his own shovel; he can be placed in the tractor cab. There are some nice decal stickers that provide the grain logo.
This kit is more complicated than basic LEGO brick sets, because it has special parts that have to be assembled just so to achieve the model as pictured. It has detailed pictorial instructions that show how to assemble the tractor from just a few bricks, adding two or four bricks each step. When you're ready to move to more complex LEGO kits like vehicles, that provide more challenge then this is a good starter LEGO vehicle kit.
It is rated age 5-12 and I think it is suitable for older pre-school or kindergarteners that have experience building with basic LEGO bricks.
Some of the parts are very small and the rear axel assembly will require careful attention to the instructions unless the builders are already familiar with these kinds of small LEGO parts. The instructions are essential, and very interesting to use, as we built it. Following the instructions to assemble the tractor is one of the key educational value aspects of this type of small vehicle LEGO kit. The quality of the design, unmatched toy engineering for the small parts, and the interesting instructions make this toy a good value and entertaining.
I think this is a great parent-child joint project.
We spent almost an hour assembling it by taking care to read the instructions and check the pieces. And there might have been a cookie break in there.
I don't think it's suitable for unsupervised play until the child can easily assemble and re-assemble this on his own.
Females in the family say the farmer guy is 'cute.'

I bought this set for my nephew's 6th birthday, and he absolutely loves it! Easy to use instructions and hours of entertainment for a 6-year-old.

My older son builds more complex constructions, so I bought this for my younger son for Christmas. We live on a farm so the tractor was ideal. He had no trouble constructing the tractor, and plays with it along side his small scale farm equipment sets. The perfect gift!

It's a great Red tractor, glad we found it while we could (it's a discontinued product). We are farm lovers and found the RED tractor and thought it would be a cool item for our son's future collection of LEGOS.
