Not just another Hogwarts... Jun 25, 2007

For the third addition to the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle, we are treated to a true addition. The set matches up quite nicely with previous offerings from the LEGO line and offers plenty of new Hogwarts adventure to make it feel like a truly new location.
This set was purchased for my 8 year old daughter on her birthday. The delightful elements, colors and unique characters sold it for her wish list. As her father and a fan of all things LEGO, naturally we built it together. Together we spent 2 1/2 hours on the construction, and each portion of the set is contained in numbered bags that you do not open until you reach the step in the construction that requires those parts. That limits confusion; after all it is 943 pieces. When I was a kid the largest set I had was probably only half that size. A benefit to my daughter was the inclusion of no fewer than three female minifigures, two with LEGO hair! That's always a plus for her ;)
Though it is large and can take some time to build it is very educational. Structures and supports are all well used in this set. The step by step build process meant that at certain points in the process my daughter could have a completed tower, Herbology Classroom or another portion of the set already complete for a few moments of diversion. Older kids, and adults will likely have no trouble at all with the time it takes. Younger kids naturally are going to need a little help or they might find it overwhelming.
A great LEGO set, full of exploration, character and fun. Definitely a family moment. You'll be eager to play with your child with this one. Or just get one for yourself. It's great.

That's not just good, its brilliant Jul 09, 2007

Okay, there is another Hogwarts Castle available. however, with its price being nearly $500. I think this smaller version is just as fantastic! My son likes to pretend he is Harry or Ron on one of their wild adventures thru. the castle. He also likes the fact you can divide the castle into sections and carry one peice at a time. I recommend this Lego if you like Harry and his friends as much as we do.
My only concern would be to be very careful, as any with any Lego, the castle can come apart if played with too rough.

FUN! Jul 05, 2007

This is the first big Lego set I have bought for my kids, who are 7 & 11. We worked together to build it and I have to say that the instructions were very well done. Even my 7yo was able to follow them with just minimal help.
I agree with the previous poster, that the numbering of the bags was a plus. And with all the mini figures included, my kids will actually be PLAYING with this set instead of just building it and setting it on a shelf to collect dust.
I was a huge Lego fan as a kid and this set brought back the fun.

My first set of Legos! Jan 14, 2008

"true dat"
This was my first set of Legos, and yes, I am an adult. I thought it was challenging enough for my tween children to help me, and still fun for me as well. Plus, the Hogwarts Castle turned out really cool. Harry and the other characters are great looking. Especially Hagrid! The only negative thing I could nit-pick about was the castle is a lot smaller that you would expect. (Comparative to other Lego castles.) Great Lego set for the Harry Potter fan!

Hogwart's Castle Jan 07, 2008
By K. Reynolds My 10 year old daughter received the castle for Christmas. She enjoys all things Harry Potter and LOVES the castle. She had no difficulty putting the castle together (it took her about 3 hours). She especially likes the greenhouse. She likes how Lego includes all sorts of small details in the kit that are discussed in the Harry Potter books, e.g Sirius Black's head in the fireplace.
