Very challenging, with a result of pride in accomplishment Feb 06, 2009

My son (at 7) complained that every LEGO toy I got him was too easy. So I got this one, which not only uses the TECHNIC system, but has an extremely intricate design. Unlike the other LEGO kits he got - even the huge Star Wars Battle Cruiser - he could not put this together in one sitting. He got frustrated at times with the hand coordination and delicacy of partially complete sections, but stuck with it until the end and beamed with pride at how well he did. The only thing I helped him with was when his hands lacked the strength to snap certain parts together; otherwise, he and his older sister (whom he directed as his assistant) did everything. It was a wonderful experience for all of us, and now we have a sturdy good-looking car that I hope we can adapt with the MINDSTORMS NXT robot brain and motors at a later time.
