DON'T USE OUTDOORS Aug 05, 2009 IF YOU FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS YOU WOULD HAVE TO PUT 50 DOLLARS WORTH OF COINS IN ORDER FOR THE BLIMP NOT TO PULL AWAY FROM ITS ROPE AND FLY AWAY. PLAYED WITH IT FOR 1 MINUTE OUTSIDE AND IT FLEW AWAY. TOO BIG FOR INDOORS UNLESS YOU HAVE REALLY HIGH CEILING.

Cheap materials, cheap assembly, but still fun. Apr 07, 2009 The materials used in this blimp are startlingly cheap and low quality. While the inflatable envelope itself is surprisingly durable (much more so than I expected), the electronics are another story. When I first got the blimp and was testing the gondola, I noticed that the "up" button on the controller didn't do anything. I opened up the controller and saw that the button wasn't soldered to the circuit board. It was clear that whoever assembled it had forgotten to connect the button during assembly.
The design isn't too great either. The LEDs on the gondola draw considerable power from the battery, power which should be going into the motors. I modified the gondola and cut power to the bright white LED in the front and immediately the motors were much more powerful and the movement is very responsive. The marking on the envelope for attaching the gondola is in a very poor place, too far forward to properly balance the airship. I'm not sure if this is just my blimp with a misprint on the envelope or if this is the way they all are.
A word of warning: don't trust the tape provided to attach the gondola to the envelope. I did, and after only an hour of being attached the adhesive just peeled off the envelope, causing the gondola to fall and the envelope to float up to the ceiling. Also, the included 3 volt "CR123A" battery lasted about 5 minutes. If the blimp isn't properly weighted down when this happens, it'll float up and away uncontrollably.
When it comes to flying the blimp, it's a lot of fun. Controlling it in the air can be difficult, especially if it isn't weighted just perfectly, but getting the hang of it is rewarding. Just don't expect anything near hobby grade if you buy this.

Fun, if you have room! Feb 02, 2009 On a whim (and a sale) I bought this, and I confess I've never taken it out of my own house - so I can't talk about whether it's ok outdoors, etc. But it's a lot of fun (and somewhat challenging) to steer it around the house, through doors, scare the pets, etc. I have never had a problem with it, and never had any part of it break. Though I've never let kids play with it for an extended period of time, it seems fairly sturdy (though one girl complained about how loud the motors were). I was going to use it at church for VBS, but it didn't work into our theme - maybe next year!
