5Quality Game, Enjoyable for children and parents  Aug 24, 2009 By HeatherHH
Updated Aug. 2011

This is a very well-done memory game. There are twelve adorable wooden penguins with a hollow space to hide one of twelve brightly colored eggs (2 each of 6 colors). Players roll the dice to determine what color eggs they are looking for and then look under two penguins. If they get a match, they get to keep it; if both match, they get another turn; otherwise, it's the next player's turn. The first to get 6 eggs wins, or the one at the end with the most.

This game is very durable with all wooden pieces; it still looks brand new despite plenty of play. This is a big plus to me with six children now, and hopefully more in the future. The penguin framework makes this game very enjoyable to my middle four children (ages 8 down to 2 1/2), and even my almost 10-year-old is willing to join in on occasion!. And of course, there's the educational value of a memory-building game.

One of the biggest pluses to this game is it fits a wide range of skill levels. Even my 2 1/2-year-old, who hasn't grasped the idea of remembering which colors were where, can enjoy looking under two penguins. He's thrilled to death when he gets a match, because all of his older siblings applaud him. Though he rarely wins playing against his older siblings, he is still able to play along with them. As there is a significant element of chance because of the rolls, it's not always the one with the best memory who wins either.

I am very glad to have purchased this game. I also bought it as a gift for my nieces and nephews who enjoyed it also. I'd highly recommed it for families with preschoolers and early elementary aged children.

52 Year Old is addicted...  Jan 08, 2009 By R. Laufgraben
We play this game every night and my little boy loves it and he does not typically like board games. He enjoys lifting the penguins up to check which egg is underneath...I believe it is really improving his memory and ability to follow direction. The game is all wooden, high quality, and easy to store back in the box. A very cute game which gets a lot of use around my house.

4Fun for little ones  Nov 26, 2008 By trish
This is a great little memory game for little ones. There are a few game options that make it more enjoyable...We went with a rule that if a person rolls a double color they can take that color from someone else's iceberg IF they know where it is. Just taking from anyone's iceberg all the time doesn't work because that becomes the focus of the game. I wish there were more penguins though because it's too short and if 4 people play then nobody ever gets to 6. It's almost better to buy two sets, but it's too pricey for that.

5Eco Friendly Fun  Aug 09, 2009 By Eco Mama's Guide To Living Green "www.ecomamasguidetolivinggreen.blogspot.com"
Blue Orange Games actually plants two trees for every one used. If only other companies could be this responsible. They totally won me over with that straight away without ever seeing the toys, I confess. But my first experience with one of their games is a big success in terms of sheer fun factor.

The award winning Pengaloo is visually appealing and features an element of surprise. Players try to find colored eggs (hiding under the wooden penguins) corresponding to the colors on dice. It's a little more involved than straight "Concentration" but basically the same idea, it's a memory game. There are suggestions in the pamphlet for variations and of course, you can make up your own.

I'm a big fan of board games and think it's a great way to bond with your child. On day one, I played this game with my son for a good hour, with lots of "Let's do it again!" Then he continued to play by himself for another hour. He's gone back to it many times since and says it's one of his favorite toys already.

On a practical note, the box, made of recycled and recyclable cardboard, is sturdy and designed to house all the pieces nicely for easy cleanup and storage. I highly recommend this toy.

5Great toy for young children  Apr 06, 2009 By T. Miller "always a reader"
My kindergarten and first-grade students love this game. It is extremely durable (being all wood) and pleasing to look at. My students are increasing their attention span and are enjoying doing it!
