Seemingly indestructible (for a boat) Dec 21, 2011
By Doctor G Of all the RC vehicles I have, this is the one that I recommend to people if they are new to the world of R/C vehicles (so long as they have a pool nearby). Even though it's not the fastest, most maneuverable, etc. it is a very fun boat and stands up well to bumps and scrapes, within reason. I give it four stars for durability because of a few things: An old 1st-gen ZZR I used for a long time stripped a gear in the rudder servo after a particularly bad crash, and since the rudder servo is part of the main circuit board inside of a little sealed compartment, it is not repairable. Also, the canopies always break off the little front nub that holds them on -- get some superglue and a body post for an R/C car (or similarly-sized stick-like item), and you're done. I did have one ZZR3 that came with a malfunctioning servo, which I returned for a new boat. In the water though, these boats are a lot of fun, especially for family play with more than one boat. They can dart around quickly but are easy for younger children to learn, due to their simplicity, and stay afloat even if capsized or hit by another boat, due to the smooth canopy design. They are also a good candidate for doing an LED canopy conversion (see [...] And the best part is, if the boat gets destroyed, it only cost around $80. Well worth it for the fun (but do yourself a favor and by some extra batteries -- Venom Racing has some 8.4 volt batteries that make the boat faster, for less money than the hobbyzone batteries).
